The
long-awaited elections of the Yunion began with nomination day on
Saturday January 27, 2018. The election date, Saturday, February 17,
was ratified by the meeting. Final reports were presented by the
Treasurer, Mrs June Jones, and the President, Mrs Cassandra Garber (...read President's report). The
meeting then elected Justice Bintu Alhadi to be the Presiding Officer,
responsible for conducting the elections all the way through to
election day.
The Presiding Officer called for the handover of Yunion property, as
outlined in the Constitution. Mrs Garber handed over an inventory of
items in her property, which she said would require a van to move from
her house. Mrs Vicky Carlton-Carew, Secretary, handed
over the Yunion's files.
All executive positions were declared vacant and the Presiding Officer
called for nominations for the various positions. Mrs Cassandra Garber
was nominated and seconded for the key position of President. Mr Leon
Jenkins-Johnston was also nominated and seconded for the position but
he chose to decline the nomination, thus leaving Mrs Garber as the only
nominee.
